* Texas Education Code § 48.158 defines "classroom teacher as an educator who is employed by a school district and who, not less than an average of four hours each day, teaches in an academic instructional setting or a career and technology setting.

A ll salary ranges are adopted annually by the Board of Trustees. The District ensures salary placement for new hires will be based on verified years of experience according to the Commissioner's Rules on Creditable Years of Service . These ranges should not be used to project salary amounts for subsequent years.

EDUCATION :

Bachelors Degree

CERTIFICATION :

Valid Texas Teaching Certificate by the State Board for Educator Certification

Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) or Certified Academic Language Practitioner (CALP) or willing to attend training to become CALT or CALP certified

High School Diplomas and college/university degrees must be obtained from an accredited program or university approved by the United States Department of Education and the Texas Education Agency.

PRIMARY PURPOSE SUMMARY :

Provides direct dyslexia/dysgraphia to identified students by engaging them in scientific, research-based instructional practices that will help them improve their achievement in the areas of reading and written expression. This is an itinerant position and will require travel within the district.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provides explicit, systematic, multisensory instruction using districts adopted Dyslexia intervention curriculum with fidelity.

2. Disaggregates data to identify trends to help focus instruction.

3. Works collaboratively under the direction of the Special Education Director.

4. Conducts and documents progress monitoring of student achievement

5. Attends and provides input at Section 504 and IEP committee meeting for students served in the dyslexia therapy program.

6. Guides campus 504 coordinators to ensure understanding and compliance of state and federal guidelines regarding dyslexia/dysgraphia.

7. Maintains intervention and dyslexia records, rolls and inventory and coordinates with campus staff members to maintain literacy assessments and dyslexia records, rolls, and records.

8. Establishes and maintains a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.

9. Provides systemic direct instruction using evidence-based Dyslexia curriculum.

10. Develops and implements lesson plans for each intervention period.

11. Maintains service logs according to district procedures.

12. Participates in staff development activities, regular district professional development and other trainings/meetings to maintain knowledge of educational best practices and to improve job related skills.

13. Maintains all reports, records, and other documents in district identified system.

14. Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.

15. Manages student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.

16. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

17. Attends District meetings and training and provides follow-up literacy training at campus level for implementations determined by campus needs.

18. Establishes and maintains open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.

19. Presents and/or facilitates professional development about dyslexia/dysgraphia to campus and district level staff.

20. Collaborates with MTSS/RTI and attends MTSS committee meetings concerning assessing, designing, improving and providing dyslexia services to students.

21. Serves as a resource for assigned campuses.

22. Complies with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.

23. Attends and participates in faculty meetings as needed in support of District Dyslexia Initiatives.

24. Maintains confidentiality of information.

25. Reports to work on time every day.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Knowledge of evidence-based Dyslexia Instruction

• Knowledge of multisensory structured literacy instruction

• Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area

• Knowledge of Section 504 and Special Education

• Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation

• General knowledge of curriculum and instruction

• Knowledge of computer tools, including but not limited to email, internet, word processing and spreadsheets

• Valid Texas Driver's license with driving record that meets the requirements of the District

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee is occasionally required to drive personal vehicle in the performance of assigned tasks.
