Internship Description/Learning Objectives:

This internship is a unique opportunity for anyone thinking about entering into
the hospitality industry. The Grand Hyatt Hotel has a fully functioning laundry
department. The interns will tend to laundering machines to clean articles such
as wearing apparel, sheets, blankets, and other linens used by the hotel and
guests. All interns must be 17 years of age or

older to apply. One free, hot meal will be provided each shift.

Job Duties:

The major job responsibilities involved in this position include the following:

- Cleans rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators,
stairways, and locker rooms and other work areas.

- Abides by the regulations set forth by the material safety data sheets when
using chemicals.

- Moves/arranges furniture and dusts/polishes furniture, metalwork and
equipment.

- Sweeps, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors, using brooms and mops and powered
scrubbing and waxing machines. Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and
draperies, using vacuum cleaner.

- Collects soiled linens for laundering and receives and stores linen supplies
in linen closet.

- Cleans bathrooms and replenishes with supplies.

- Washes walls, ceiling, and woodwork; washes windows, door panels, and sills.

- Empties wastebaskets, and empties and cleans ashtrays. Transports trash and
waste to disposal

area.

- Takes the initiative to greet guests in a friendly and warm manner.

- Other duties as assigned.

General Information:

Work Schedule Days and Hour:

Tuesday- Thursday, & Saturday 8am-2:30pm

Dress Code:

A uniform will be provided. Intern should wear closed, non-stick shoes.

Travel Required:

Intern may be placed at the location listed.

Physical Requirements:

Stand for long periods of time

- Walk extended distances

- Lift/carry 26-50 lbs.

- Kneel and/or stoop repeatedly

- Near toxic or caustic chemicals (cleaning agents/materials)

Working Conditions: (example: Office Warehouse, Outdoors, with Children or
Animals, etc.)

In a hotel (exposure to heat and cold), outdoors

June 1st – June 3rd: Interns attend work readiness skills training from 8am –
12pm.

June 4th: Attend employer orientation meeting.

June 5th: POWER Youth Summit at Sheraton Music
City Nashville Airport

June 8th – July 17th: Youth will report to their employer worksite location on
Monday –

Thursday or special schedule workday at
the time

scheduled by employer. You will be
scheduled to work 6.5 hours daily

which equals 24 hours per week.

Friday Co-Horts: Youth report to cohort sessions at assigned locations at 8:00am
to

12:00noon on Fridays.

July 17th: POWER Youth Summer Employment Program.

If you are selected as a High School Intern, you will make $15.00 an hour and
receive pre-program training and coaching to ensure you have the skills you need
on the job. Interns are responsible for providing their own transportation to
all orientation, training, worksite, and cohort times. Please consider your
transportation needs prior to applying for the High School Internship program.

The POWER Youth program, previously known as Opportunity NOW, provides career
exploration and work experience activities for youth 14 to 24 years old. The
name POWER Youth was selected by the peer youth leadership team based on how
they view themselves and their future.
