The Academic Support Specialist for grades 6–12 is a highly qualified educator who serves as a secondary Academic Support Specialist and an integral member of both the Academic Support Team and the school’s leadership team. This role includes, but is not limited to, creating and assigning appropriate classroom accommodations, supporting teachers in the effective implementation of those accommodations, providing small-group support within classroom settings, and delivering targeted 1:1 instruction for students with learning differences, including dyslexia. In addition, this position is a member of the college admissions team and contributes to guiding students through the admissions process. The specialist collaborates closely with faculty, students, and families to support academic growth, ensure access to curriculum, and advance each student’s progress toward established goals while strengthening systems of support across the campus.
Required MINIMUM Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, Student Support, Literacy or Related Field
• Training, Certification, and Experience in Structured Literacy Practices for Reading and Dyslexia Interventions: Literacy, Reading, Special Education, Orton-Gillingham methodology, and/or Reading Intervention Systems (such as Wilson, UFLI, Reading By Design)
• 5 years minimum teaching experience
• Experience in College Admissions/Counseling
• Ability to clear the required background check
• Preference will be given to candidates with C-SLDS, C-SLDI, LDT, CALT, or CALP. (preferred)
• Active state teaching license (preferred)
• Master's Degree (preferred)
Residency Requirement: Current Texas resident preferred.

• Receptive to receiving coaching regularly with administrators and teacher trainers
• Ability to embrace change and adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes
• Proficient in learning management systems and school use of technology
• Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms

• Differentiates instruction based on student's level of mastery
• Augments course content according to prescribed policies and procedures using appropriate tools under guidance from the Director of Academics
• Conduct formative and summative assessments of student mastery and reteach necessary concepts
• Be available to tutor students in course content during open periods
• Understand that a primary responsibility is to establish and maintain a positive rapport with families and regularly communicate with and respond to students and parents on time
• Supports parents with student curricular and instructional issues
• Attend all faculty and staff meetings
• Participate in school and subject-level extracurriculars
• Other administrative duties as assigned
