Job Description: Grammar School Teacher - Classical University-Model

Kinder - 4th Grade (Part Time – 2 to 3 days per week)

Salary $35,000 to $42,000 (Depending on Experience)

A Grammar School Teacher in our Classical University-Model® School Kinder - 4th Grade acts as both a subject-matter expert in classical pedagogy and a guiding partner to parents, who act as co-teachers at home. This role combines rigorous, foundational academic instruction—often utilizing memorization, song, and chant—with a focus on character formation, truth, goodness, and beauty. In a university model, the teacher instructs on-campus 2–3 days a week, preparing detailed lesson plans for parents to implement during home days.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
• Spiritual Mentorship & Modeling: Serve as a godly role model, fostering a love for the Bible and cultivating a biblical worldview in all subjects with students.
• Instruction & Curriculum: Deliver a rigorous interdisciplinary curriculum, Classical Writing, Grammar, Reading, Literature, Math, History, and Latin based on a Christian worldview.
• University-Model Coordination: Plan and implement lessons for on-campus days, Tuesday/Thursday, and create detailed lesson plans, assignments, and instructions for parent-instructors to use on home days.
• Classical Pedagogy: Utilize classical techniques such as narration, imitation, and memorization to help students build a "grammar" (foundational knowledge) of subject matter.
• Classroom Management & Character: Maintain an orderly, welcoming, and academically focused classroom, enforcing school-wide rules of behavior and virtue.
• Assessment & Reporting: Assess student progress through formal tests, quizzes, and, crucially, oral "narrative" assessments and recitations.
• Parent Partnership: Communicate regularly with co-teaching parents regarding student progress, behavioral concerns, and curriculum execution.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
• Faith & Philosophy: Active, practicing Christian whose life reflects the moral/spiritual values of the school, with a strong commitment to classical education.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in education, liberal arts, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
• Experience: 3–5 years of teaching experience, preferably in a classical or private school setting.
• Academic Competence: Broad knowledge of liberal arts disciplines; familiarity with specific classical curricula.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interfacing with parents and staff.
• Collaboration: Strong ability to work within a team, as university-model teachers often collaborate closely with administration and other faculty.

SPECIFIC CHARACTERISTICS OF A CLASSICAL TEACHER
• "Grammaticus" Role: Focused on teaching foundational skills (reading, writing, arithmetic, Latin) with precision.

• Schedule: Generally, this is a part-time or full-time position structured around 2-3 days of on-campus instruction, providing flexibility for parents to co-teach.
• Compensation: Ranges for part-time and full-time roles, depending on hours and experience, with benefits sometimes including tuition remission for teacher children.
