Title: Audiologist

Evaluates and manages auditory and communication disorders in students, fit and monitor hearing aids and assistive devices, and administer diagnostic audiological assessments. Provides educational recommendations, collaborates with school teams, and serves as a subject matter expert to ensure effective learning environments for students with hearing impairments. This role requires expertise in the field and the ability to operate with limited oversight.

Essential Functions

• Conducts annual evaluations, manages the needs of deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) students, and ensures auditory accessibility within the DeKalb County School District (DCSD).
• Completes audiological assessments for students, including preschool children, Special Education Students prior to Individualized Education Program (IEP) reevaluation, and general education students who have failed mass screenings.
• Fits and manages hearing aids and personal amplification devices for individuals with hearing impairments and ensures the devices are functioning correctly.
• Serves as an internal subject matter expert, providing guidance to colleagues as required.
• Performs complex analysis when assessing acoustic environments or evaluating individual cases, considering multiple variables for optimal student support, and recommends solutions.
• Visits classrooms to assess acoustics, provides recommendations to improve auditory conditions, and assists teachers in understanding the impact of hearing loss on student performance.
• Participates as a member of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team, interprets the impact of hearing loss on speech, language development, and classroom performance, and makes recommendations for access to auditory enhancements.
• Trains staff on how to support DHH individuals, provides in-services on the care and use of amplification devices, and advises medical teams of student needs.
• Manages caseloads effectively by scheduling assessments, diagnoses, and treatments efficiently and performing administrative tasks such as maintaining the equipment inventory.
• Submits and manages the department's budget in coordination with administrative staff to ensure resources are allocated appropriately for the provision of audiological services.
• Performs additional duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Doctorate Degree in Audiology or closely related area is required.
• Minimum of two (2) years professional level experience in pediatric audiology or closely related area is required.
