Job Summary

The ability to supervise elementary school children in the cafeteria, lunch area, bus area, and on the playground. This includes providing the children with the necessary guidance to insure safe, active and wholesome recreational activities.

Job Description / Essential Elements:

WASHINGTON UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT CLASSIFICATION: NOON DUTY SUPERVISOR SALARY RANGE: 18 GROUP: STUDENT SERVICES DATE OF ADOPTION/REVISION: 01/22/09 DESCRIPTION: Under direct supervision, follow school procedures in supervising students in the school lunch room and on the playground. Typical duties will include, but are not limited to, seating students in the cafeteria is required, supervising students in the cafeteria, on the playground and going to and from the cafeteria. Other duties will include setting up and clearing tables, observes and controls behavior of students according to approved procedures, assist in maintaining order among students on the school grounds and/or in the cafeteria during breaks and lunch periods, preventing vandalism of school property and ensuring the orderly return of students to classes at the end of the lunch period. Performs other related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: - School procedures, rules and regulations; - Sound methods for enforcing discipline and school rules. AND Ability to: - Work harmoniously with administrators, teachers, students and other employees; - Exercise good judgment in reinforcing good behavior, dealing with misbehavior, and settling disagreements between students; - Learn and enforce school rules in areas of responsibility; - Understand and carry out oral and written directions; - Prepare simple written reports; - Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work. AND Training and experience: - Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain these knowledges and abilities would be: Experience supervising and/or working with youth through service or youth organizations such as Boy or Girl Scouts, church school classes, recreation groups and other such organizations. Physical Abilities: Requires visual acuity to observe people, facilities, situations and movement. Ability to stand for extended periods of time and walk continually. Run, squat, kneel and crouch frequently. May occasionally pull, push, or lift heavy objects. Requires hearing and speaking skills in order to communicate. Requires writing and reading skills in order to complete reports. Hear, speak, write, and read in English to exchange information.
