JOB DESCRIPTION:
Provides security and safety services to the District by assisting in establishing and maintaining a safe and secure environment, throughout assigned school property.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Incumbent must achieve the following outcomes with or without reasonable accommodation:
• Investigates problems regarding safety and security on school campus, including community service projects aimed at creating safer environments.
• Recruits, trains and mobilizes students to improve the learning environment by designing and leading youth crime violence and drug prevention projects, under the guidelines of the Youth Safety Corp.
• Conducts security and safety audits at assigned school.
• Augments the services provided by School Police on campus.
• Attends in-service training as directed by APS Police Department.
• Directs traffic on campus and adjoining streets.
• Completes private property traffic accident reports and submits to APS Police Department.
• Completes informational Police reports under supervision of APS Police Department personnel.
• Assists in searching students, lockers and/or vehicles.
• Transports students to and from designated areas in a safe, appropriate and timely manner.
• Testifies in depositions and/or jurisdictional courts.
• Observes, monitors and influences and/or directs student compliance with the rules of conduct in assigned areas.
• Identifies students in non-compliance situations and takes appropriate action (action may include: advisement, calling for
assistance, recording and/or detention).
• Observes and monitors gatherings and movements of groups of students for possible infractions of policy and takes appropriate action.
• Maintains personnel attire (uniform) as directed by APS Police Department.
• Works extra curricular activities (i.e., athletic events, dances, graduations).
DUTIES: In addition to the essential functions of this job, the incumbent must perform the following duties:
• Complies with state-approved Code of Ethics of the Education Profession and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations.
• Articulates and facilitates the implementation of the mission and values of the Albuquerque Public Schools.
• Safeguards confidentiality of privileged information.
• Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records and reports as required by law, state directives, District policy and
administrative regulations.
• Shares the responsibility for the supervision and care of District inventory, proper and safe use of facilities, equipment and
supplies, and reports safety hazards promptly.
• Maintains professional relationships and works cooperatively with employees, the community and other professionals.
• Maintains professional competence through individual and staff training, in-service educational activities and self-selected
professional growth activities.
• Attends and/or conducts staff meetings and participates on committees within area of responsibility.
• Performs other tasks related to area of responsibilities as requested or assigned by an immediate supervisor.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:
• Effective communication skills both verbal and written.
• Flexibility, organization, decision-making and problem solving skills.
• Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.
• Ability to meet deadlines and work on multiple projects.
• Knowledge of district policies on immunization, medication, first aid, emergencies and child abuse/neglect.
• Ability to make decisions, enforce APS Policy, state law, detaining and using appropriate physical control, if necessary.
• One year security guard or similar experience is preferred
REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Upon hire, must attend and successfully complete a security training course, through to certification.
