Job Description
Maret is looking for an inspiring and dynamic director of college counseling beginning on July 1, 2026. The director of college counseling provides the vision and strategic leadership for the school’s comprehensive college counseling program and leads a collaborative team of college counseling professionals that includes one full-time college counselor, one part-time college counselor, and the registrar. Candidates should be lifelong learners who reflect the school's mission and core values, possess strong communication skills, and exhibit a facility and nimbleness with technology. The position is supervised by the director of upper school. Additional responsibilities include serving as an advisor to a group of upper school students and fulfilling one or more community responsibilities.

The successful candidate will:
• Design, implement, and continually refine the comprehensive college counseling program and ensure that the program aligns with the school’s mission and values;
• Manage office operations, timelines, and workflows, including working to support faculty with their responsibilities in the college counseling process;
• Lead and supervise the college counseling team (two counselors and registrar), including hiring, mentoring, and evaluating the team;
• Provide individual counsel for students and families through all phases of the college application and admission process;
• Write compelling and effective letters of recommendation for students in their counseling group and provide guidance around the writing of recommendation letters for the college counseling team and faculty;
• Build and maintain relationships with a wide range of colleges and universities and stay informed of national college admission trends;
• Represent the school within regional and national college counseling networks;
• Maintain accurate records, school profiles, and data reporting;
• Plan and facilitate programming for varied constituencies of the school community, including parents and faculty;
• Serve as course registration advisor for rising seniors in collaboration with the college counseling team;
• Teach Wellness class units on the college application process.
Qualifications:
• A minimum of seven years of experience in independent school college counseling and/or college admission, including programmatic and supervisory responsibilities;
• Extensive knowledge of US and international higher education systems;
• Strong writing, communication, and interpersonal skills and the ability to represent Maret to external and internal communities;
• Demonstrated commitment to cultural competency, equity, and inclusion in working with families and colleagues of diverse backgrounds;
• A growth mindset and the ability to maintain high levels of discretion and professionalism in handling confidential and sensitive information;
• The ability to build trust with students, families, and colleagues;
• Commitment to leading with empathy, support, and joy while helping students and families navigate all aspects of the college process;
• Superior organizational skills and work ethic;
• Bachelor’s degree (required); advanced degree preferred.
Competitive salary and benefits. Salary range is $143,500–$165,000, depending on years of teaching experience and qualifications.
