Your role will support City Year’s mission by providing vital mentorship and educational assistance to students who need support to succeed.

Role and Responsibilities:

As an Education Support Mentor, your primary responsibility is to enhance students' academic performance while fostering their personal growth. This includes providing classroom support, offering one-on-one tutoring, and acting as a mentor to students, all with the goal of helping them achieve positive academic outcomes.
• Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring in subjects such as math, reading, and science.
• Model positive behaviors and essential social-emotional skills to aid in student development.
• Build trusting relationships with students to support their academic and personal growth.
• Work closely with teachers and school staff to identify student needs, monitor progress, and apply effective strategies for improvement.
• Develop and implement strategies to improve student engagement and academic success.
• Utilize data to track student progress, adjusting instructional approaches as necessary to ensure achievement.

Required Skills and Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Experience in educational or mentorship roles, working with students.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective engagement with students.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to provide personalized academic support.
• A commitment to fostering student success and supporting educational equity.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Previous experience in tutoring or mentoring within an educational setting.
• Familiarity with strategies to support diverse learning needs and encourage social-emotional growth.
• Experience using data to assess student progress and inform instructional decisions.
