About the Role
A successful Digital Pioneers Academy Middle School Humanities Teacher ensures that all DPA scholars meet the highest academic and behavioral expectations in a community where every scholar and adult is known, loved, challenged, and respected. Through intentional culture-building and character development, teachers prepare scholars to become thoughtful leaders ready for the demands of post-secondary pathways and the modern workforce. DPA teachers believe deeply that all scholars can achieve at high levels.
Humanities Teachers hold primary responsibility for implementing DPA’s rigorous, standards-aligned ELA and Social Studies curriculum while designing engaging, discussion-rich learning experiences that build literacy, historical thinking, and analytical writing. Instruction is purposeful, rigorous, and grounded in real-world relevance. At DPA, we operate as one team with one mission. Responsibilities
• Implementing curricula and activities to meet academic standards and push the rigor of the content
• Driving academic outcomes by analyzing scholar work and data, and implementing high leverage instructional moves to ensure dramatic gains for all scholars
• Developing strong relationships with parents and scholars, creating investment in school culture and academics
• Designing assessments that measure progress towards academic standards
• Using assessment data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices
• Participating in collaborative curriculum development, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions
• Collaborating with grade level teachers to create consistent structures and systems for your shared cohort of scholars
• Serving as an advisor to a small group of scholars
Qualifications
• Minimum of two years teaching experience in an urban public or charter school setting
• Strong content knowledge for high school subject
• Bachelor’s degree with an outstanding record of academic achievement and leadership is required; Master’s degree is preferred
• Belief in and alignment with Digital Pioneers Academy’s core mission and educational philosophy
• Evidence of self-motivation, diligence and willingness to be a team player
• Strong interpersonal skills and high moral character
Required Skills
• Highly motivated team player with demonstrated commitment to excellent education and demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative, team environment
• Thorough understanding of US education landscape and knowledge of key educational reform institutions
• Excellent organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize and effectively handle multiple priorities with tight deadlines
• Highly resourceful, flexible, proactive, and efficient
• Self starter looking to gain long term experience in the education sector
• Ability to take initiative, multi-task, work independently and work well under pressure
• Must possess superior written and oral communication skills
• Adept at using a number of platforms, including but not limited to G-Suite, Mailchimp, and Squarespace
