Internship Description/Learning Objectives:

The T.G.P. Summer Camp Internship is hands-on leadership and professional
development experience designed to equip high school and college counselors with
essential workforce and life skills. Interns actively participate in daily camp
operations, mentor younger students, and support academic and enrichment
programming in a structured, team-oriented environment. Through guided
supervision, real-world responsibilities, and ongoing feedback, interns gain
practical experience in leadership, communication, education, and program
management. This internship emphasizes personal growth, accountability, and the
development of transferable skills that prepare participants for future
academic, career, and community leadership opportunities

Job Duties:

High School Counselors are responsible for supporting campers through daily
activities, including:
• Ensuring campers follow all safety protocols
• and camp rules throughout the day.
• Assist in supervising campers during
• academic sessions, activities, meals, and field
• trips.
• Assist with preparing materials for upcoming
• activities.
• Support all activities, while encouraging
• camper participation.
• Providing guidance, motivation, and support
• to campers and visitors.
• Assisting with team games such as kickball,
• four squares, etc. and enrichment activities.
• Ensuring assigned areas, including the lobby,
• eating areas, and bathrooms, are clean and
• organized before leaving each day.
• Completing all academic lessons and college
• preparation activities assigned to the high
• school group.
• Communicating any safety or behavioral
• concerns to the director.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule Days and Hours:

M-TH 8:00AM-2:30PM OR

M-TH 11:00 AM-5:30PM

Dress Code:

Always wear appropriate attire, including closed-toe shoes. Clothing should not
expose any excessive cleavage, midriffs, or bottoms.

Travel Required:

Transportation is provided for all field trips.

Physical Requirements:
• Stand, walk, and remain active for extended periods of time throughout the
camp day.
• Sit on the floor, kneel, crouch, or bend as
• needed to assist campers and participate in activities.
• Participate in and lead physical activities such as sports, games, and
outdoor play (e.g., running, bending, lifting, and demonstrating movements).
• Lift, carry, and move supplies or equipment weighing up to approximately
25–30 pounds.
• Respond promptly to emergencies and maintain situational awareness to ensure
camper safety.

Working Conditions: (example: Office Warehouse, Outdoors, with Children or
Animals, etc.)

Counselors will work on the Fisk University Campus, utilizing multiple buildings
and outdoor space, with the campers.

The full program is June 1st – July 17th

June 1st – June 3rd: Interns attend work readiness skills training from 8am –
12pm.

June 4th: Attend employer orientation meeting.

June 5th: POWER Youth Summit at Sheraton Music City
Nashville Airport

June 8th – July 17th: Youth will report to their employer worksite location on
Monday –

Thursday or special scheduled workday at
the time

scheduled by employer. You will be
scheduled to work 6.5 hours daily

which equals 24 hours per week.

Friday Co-Horts: Youth report to cohort sessions at assigned
locations at 8:00am to 12:00noon on Fridays.

July 17th: POWER Youth Summer Employment Program.

If you are selected as a High School Intern, you will make $15.00 an hour and
receive pre-program training and coaching to ensure you have the skills you need
on the job. Interns are responsible for providing their own transportation to
all orientation, training, worksite, and cohort times. Please consider your
transportation needs prior to applying for the High School Internship program.
There are opportunities to intern in many areas of Nashville, so please select
the opportunity based on your access to transportation.

The POWER Youth program, previously known as Opportunity NOW, provides career
exploration and work experience activities for youth 14 to 24 years old. The
name POWER Youth was selected by the peer youth leadership team based on how
they view themselves and their future.
