Job Description

About Horizons At Georgia Tech

Horizons at Georgia Tech is a summer learning program built around one simple belief: kids thrive when they have strong relationships, consistent routines, and adults who show up with care and purpose.

We support children of limited financial means through a high-quality experience that builds academic skills and whole-child growth. Scholars build confidence, problem-solving skills, and a sense of community responsibility. Every scholar also learns to swim as part of our commitment to safety and confidence-building.

Job Overview

Lead Teachers are the heart of the scholar experience. You will lead a classroom community where learning feels structured, engaging, and achievable every day. This is not a “sit and get” role. It is hands-on, relationship-driven, and built for educators who know that culture and instruction go together.

You will teach, guide routines, implement daily SEL, and lead a classroom team (HGT Group Leaders and high school volunteers) so every scholar receives support and attention.

What You Will Do
• Create a safe, welcoming classroom culture where scholars feel known, respected, and motivated
• Plan and teach strong daily lessons with high engagement and clear routines
• Implement daily SEL lessons and use proactive supports that keep scholars ready to learn
• Lead a classroom team by directing support staff and volunteers during learning blocks
• Use small groups and active learning to meet different skill levels without lowering expectations
• Participate in meals, transitions, and field trips as part of a whole-day youth program team

Assignment Options: Final placement is based on program need and your strengths.

Elementary Lead Teacher (Self-Contained)
Integrated instruction across reading, math, and science.

Middle Grades Lead Teacher (Content Lead: ELA or Math)
Instruction in one content area for approximately 6th to 8th grade scholars.

Required Qualifications
• Current GaPSC certification
• Experience teaching elementary or middle grades students
• Strong classroom leadership, planning habits, and ability to collaborate and lead support staff with clarity
